JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The accused killer of a Jackson man goes on trial Monday in Alabama. Twenty-seven year-old Broderick Dixon was a computer engineer in Alabama. He grew up in Jackson. He was shot and killed May 22, 2009.
Twenty-three year old Chevis Finley, an off duty Brighton, Alabama police officer was indicted and charged with murder. Deborah Dixon says Finley's trial has been continued several times but she is hopeful testimony will begin next week as scheduled. Finley has been free on bond.
Congressman Bennie Thompson has asked the Justice Department to look into suspicious circumstances in the investigation of Dixon's death. We have also learned from the Dixon family, someone identifying himself as Finley wrote a Facebook message apologizing for Broderick Dixon's death. They are hoping the message can be admitted as evidence in the trial.
