HATTIESBURG, MS (WLBT) - USM Coach Larry Fedora issued a statement Sunday about the three Golden Eagle football players, who were shot Sunday morning.

Three Southern Miss football players were shot during an altercation at a Hattiesburg nightclub early Saturday morning and all three are in fair condition at a local hospital.

Linebackers Martez Smith, Tim Green and defensive end Deddrick Jones were shot outside of The Remington's Hunt Club around 1:30 Sunday morning.

Head Coach Larry Fedora issued a statement released by the school Sunday saying, "These three men are an integral part of the success or our football program and we will continue to keep them in our hearts and hope for a speedy recovery"

The incident happened just hours after the Golden Eagles upset 25th ranked central Florida down in Orlando.

Deddrick Jones and Tim Green both played in the game, Martez Smith, a senior, was the team's starting linebacker before a season ending knee injury last month.

Coach Fedora will speak with the media Monday.
