JACKSON, MS (AP) Special elections will be held in January to fill two vacant legislative seats and an open position on the Mississippi Transportation Commission.
On Monday, Governor Haley Barbour announced that the special election will be held January 11th.
The qualifying deadline for the elections is December 12th.
Runoffs, if necessary, will be February 1st.
The elections are being held to fill the seats vacated by Senator Alan Nunnelee of Tupelo and Representative Steven Palazzo of Biloxi.
The Republicans both won seats in the U.S. House earlier this month.
Meantime, the seat of Northern Transportation Commissioner, Bill Minor, is also open.
Minor died November 1st.
The winners of the elections will serve the remainder of the terms, through January 2012.
