MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - On Tuesday the Mid-South Food Bank in Memphis announced it had not received a single donated turkey for needy families for Thanksgiving.
The next day, residents brought in about 250.
Food bank incoming President Estella Mayhue-Greer told The Commercial Appeal one couple sent a delivery truck with 48 turkeys and 52 hams. The Omega Psi Phi fraternity dropped off 40 turkeys. Individuals brought the rest.
The food bank serves 31 counties in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas.
Mayhue-Greer said she was amazed by the response. She said the food bank can never get enough turkeys.
