JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A disabled Jackson man who was severely beaten in front of his home earlier this year has died from his injuries.
61-year-old Samuel Mason suffered brain damage from the beating. He had been hospitalized in three facilities since the July 10th attack.
It happened in the parking lot of a car wash located across the street from his mother's home, where he lived, in the 3000 block of Marydell Street off Medgar Evers Boulevard.
79-year-old Susie Mason said her son had no enemies and he used to pick up cans and bottles from the lot so he could sell them.
When asked if somebody was trying to rob the elder Mason's son, she replied, "well, that's what I felt it was, but he never carried money on him. I say maybe it was a strange person and thought he had money."
Jackson police are now investigating the attack.
An autopsy will be performed before police classify Mason's death as a homicide.
