Charges dropped against MDOT executive director

By Marsha Thompson - bio | email

Embattled State Transportation Director Larry "Butch" Brown will have to lighten up. The MDOT executive has been ordered by a Biloxi judge to enter into anger management classes. In return he gets off the hook on a public drunk charge.

Brown was scheduled for trial today on charges arising from an incident at Beau Rivage casino in July. Police say he was intoxicated and unconscious at a slot machine. Brown denied that. Walter Brown, his attorney said a breathalyzer test showed he was below the legal limit. "The bottom line is he was not intoxicated and perhaps he overreacted and for that he is apologetic and is ready to go on with his work."

The MDOT chief must successfully complete the anger management course. That's when charges against him will be dropped and his record will be expunged.

Brown was recently chastised after making crude remarks about the U.S. Federal Transportation Secretary at a national meeting.
