JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - An in depth discussion on crime and violence was held at Jackson's city hall Thursday night.

Councilman Kenneth Stokes led the forum that included Councilmen Charles Tillman and Chokwe Lumumba along with Jackson State University Professor of Criminology, Jimmy Bell.

Members of the public were urged to ask questions and make statements after professor Bell described what sparks criminal behavior.

"People commit crime because of greed or they commit crime because of need. Now that is an over simplification trust me. Crime is much more complex," said Bell.

Professor Bell also said the entire community needs to get involved in reducing crime and not rely solely on police officers.
