VICKSBURG, MS -(WLBT) - The Miss America Pageant is scheduled for January in Las Vegas, Nevada. Miss Mississippi, Sarah Beth James is preparing for the national competition and in Vicksburg, shared some of her wardrobe with an audience at the Convention Center.
Miss Mississippi will need everything from blue jeans to gowns for the week of competition at the Miss America Pageant. Sarah Beth James has been shopping and tweaking her wardrobe since being crowned in July.
"I think they're gonna be looking very hard at interview. They're also going to be putting a lot of emphasis on the wardrobe this year because I just feel like if they're trying to bring it to a younger audience and a more fashion forward world then, like today with our trunk show, they're definitely going to be paying attention to what the girl chooses to wear", said James.
James has shopped all over the country and in stores throughout Mississippi looking for the right outfits. She will participate in a variety of events from formal receptions that call for elaborate gowns to a fashion show in a Las Vegas mall, and a pancake breakfast.
"I have a few favorites and we're not quite done because the trunk show is a little bit earlier this year, so we're still king of putting the final touches on things, but this is definitely one of my favorites. This is my talent gown like I said, I got to design it earlier. It kind of has a personal touch", James said.
Miss Mississippi will perform on the piano playing the same piece that helped her claim the state title.
"I think its going to appeal to all audiences. Its got the classic touch to where the people who play the piano and know the piano will appreciate it, but it also has that modern, entertaining contemporary feel", said James.
James says there are four points on the Miss America crown that symbolize, service, style, scholarship and success. Miss Mississippi hopes she will be the fifth young woman from this state to wear that crown.
