PORT GIBSON, Miss. (AP) - Twenty-five people have been arrested on dogfighting charges in Claiborne County after deputies raided property located between Pattison and Port Gibson over the weekend.
Sheriff Frank Davis says 13 dogs were seized and taken to an animal shelter.
Davis says those arrested, including property owners Bryan K. Eggleston, were awaiting initial court appearances.
Twelve pit bulls and a Chihuahua, a pet with one of the arrested men, were seized, along with an undisclosed amount of cash and medicine used for the animals' wounds.
Davis says the fight had attracted "at least 50" spectators from Mississippi, Texas and Alabama.
He says about half escaped by running into nearby woods.
