Vicksburg, Miss. (WLBT) - In a few weeks Miss Mississippi, Sarah Beth James, will head to the Miss America competition in Las Vegas.

Former Miss Americas will also attend this year to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the largest scholarship organization for women in the world.

This is more than a fashion show.

It is a time for Miss Mississippi, Sarah Beth James, to share a bit of the Miss America experience with supporters at home through the annual trunk show.

"People want to see what you're taking to Vegas, what you're gonna wear. I think they kind of like to take that sneak peek, that little preview, and also its kind of like a send off party", James said.

James says she began preparation almost immediately for the national competition after she was crowned in July.

"I have been preparing for Miss America every day, doing appearances almost every day. I think we were in like 10 towns in the past week, so lots of traveling, lots of appearances", James said.

Thursday night, Miss Mississippi spent the evening with the reigning Miss America, Caressa Cameron.

"It was just really inspiring because she had the crown on and its less than 2 months away. We're all going to be competing for that, and it is very competitive but it just really kind of got me excited", James said.

In swimwear this year, James says the contestants can choose from a one piece, a tankini, a halter, or strapless swimsuit.

She has chosen a two piece.

Miss Mississippi ran a 12k Saturday.

"We made it to the finish line. It was a nice way to train for something else and still be getting ready for Miss America. I've also been practicing my talent every day. My mom has been really great in helping me with that", James said.

James says she is hopeful after a drought since 1985, when the last Miss Mississippi won the title, this will be her year to be the next Miss America from the state of Mississippi.

The Miss America crown has four points which symbolize, service, style, scholarship and success.

The winner will be crowned Jan. 15th.
