JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - November 24th marks the day before Thanksgiving and all through the aisles, they're snapping up fixings, mostly with smiles! The day comes with some stress over finding a good variety or the best selections at the best price.

The menus are enough to make your mouth water.

"Macaroni and cheese, dressing, candied yams, pound cake," said Sadie Ratliff of Jackson.

"Dressing, sweet potato crunch, ham, all the good stuff, said Annie Joyner of Jackson.

Joseph Johnson of Jackson will be cooking a meal for eight people. "I cook it all. I'm a chef," he said. WLBT asked him for the secret to making good dressing. "No! I can't give my secrets away. They'd be wanting to get to that dressing!" he said.

Sandra Jones was shopping at the Walmart in Jackson. She planned on cooking up her famous collard greens.  "Boil them with smoked turkey necks, put the onions and hot peppers in," she said.  WLBT asked her what the big hit would be at her meal. "I think it's gonna be the ham and caramel cake," she said.

Kalissa Beasley is shopping at Food Depot on Northside Drive. She said the time spent with family will be the big hit. "Sit around, talk, laugh about the old days, eat good food," she said. "I enjoy it. I'm trying to get it started for tonight, see how good this cooking's gonna be," she said.

Most large grocery stores will be open in the morning and afternoon on Thanksgiving Day, for those who need to pick up last-minute items.
