Stores prepare for Black Friday crowds

Posted: Updated:

RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) – Most shopping centers and stores closed their doors in advance of the biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday.

The 24-hour Walmart in Ridgeland opened Thursday, doing last minute preparations for the countdown. It's expected to get a little crazy when the doors open at one minute past midnight. That's when the store unwraps its holiday specials. The manager expects everything to run smoothly.

For those in the market for toys, Toys R Us opens even earlier. Black Friday starts at 10 o'clock Thursday night.

Experts say shoppers should think twice about charging too much on their credit cards. Consumer Reports say shoppers can end up taking a year to pay for all the stuff they purchased.

So, be sure to compare prices, keep receipts and don't fall for extended warranties. Look for free shipping offers and watch out for identity theft scams.

Debit cards will not saddle you with future payments, but they don't offer the purchase protection that credit cards do on big ticket items.

There's good news on the gift card front. This is the first holiday season in which any gift card purchased can't expire for at least five years.
