FLOWOOD, MS (WLBT) - Across the metro area, cash registers were ringing loud and early Friday morning. Thousands flocked to area stores hoping to cash in on Black Friday deals.

There were big lines early at all the stores at Dogwood Festival in Flowood. At Best Buy people started lining up as early as Wednesday evening.

They opened the doors at Best Buy at 5 A.M.  At that time there were nearly 300 people in line. Inside it was a shopping frenzy, and people began snatching up electronics.

Everything was on sale from television sets to computers. Some shoppers say they were able to cut their costs in half on some purchases.

Bradley Presley, who picked up a new TV, said, "It was $800 regular, got it for $400.00 plus a Wii with it. I think I did pretty good."

The special prices included a netbook computer for $149. Another big seller was the Sony 1000 watt DVD home theater system.

Despite losing sleep and waiting in long lines at the registers, shoppers we talked to say it was well worth it.

Aaron Freeman, who bought a home theater system said, "It was crazy -- buggies everywhere. It's a madhouse for sure. I saved about sixty bucks, so it was worth it for me."

Retailers say the size of the crowds were a little larger than what they expected, which could be a good sign the economy is starting to recover.

The sales at many of the stores wrapped up at 11 AM.  Best Buy plans to have other specials lasting through the weekend.
