JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - An 85-year-old Jackson man may not have to stand trial in the shooting death of his wife. McKinley Lott is one of the oldest men ever charged with murder in the capital city.
A psychiatrist has found him criminally insane. Lott said he has no recollection of shooting his wife at their Redwood Avenue home in July of 2008. Seventy-two-year old Vera Lott died from a gunshot wound to the torso. Hinds County Circuit Judge Winston Kidd has ruled Lott incompetent to stand trial. Last month, Kidd ordered Lott be sent to the Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield.
