JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Mississippi judge asks a federal appeals court to restore his immunity from being sued over claims that he knowingly made false statements to authorities.
A judge rejected Hinds County Judge Houston Patton's assertion that he "cannot" be held liable while serving as judge.
In 2008, Judge Patton was sued by James Jennings Jr. of Mendenhall.
The suit revolves around a 1997 alleged crime in which Patton accused Jennings and his attorney of trying to bribe him. Arguments are scheduled for December 6th in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
Patton has been a judge since 19-0 and November 2nd he defeated two candidates for another four year term.
