PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (AP) Supporters of a Catholic church in Pass Christian have asked a judge to stop the demolition of the building.
The church in question is St. Paul's Catholic Church.
A group, called "Save St. Paul," contends in court documents that a closed-door vote by the Gulfport Board of Aldermen violated the state's open meeting law.
Aldermen reversed a historic preservation commission's denial of the application for a demolition permit requested by the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi.
Mayor Chipper McDermott vetoed the board's decision on November 12th but the board overrode his veto.
No date has been set for a hearing in Harrison County Circuit Court.
