JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Yazoo City police officer is recovering from surgery at University Medical Center after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities say officer Patrick Jaco was off duty when he was shot five times outside the House Doctor nightclub on Bridge Street . One of the bullets lodged in his neck, which has left him unable to speak. He is listed in fair condition.

Investigators say around 12:30 a.m., two men who were fighting in the club were thrown out. They say they left the club to retrieve guns from their cars.

When they returned, they were stopped by the 24-year-old officer.  Police say the two opened fire, striking the off duty officer and a security guard. Both of the shooters fled.

The men have been identified as Rodney and Tommy Young. One of the men was arrested in Humphreys County Sunday, and is being held as only a person of interest at this point.   Investigators don't know if one or both of the men fired their weapons.

Chief Eric Snow says, "He isn't able to speak right now but he has been writing descriptions on paper."

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is now assisting in the investigation.
