JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Jackson Police officer is on administrative leave after shooting an armed robbery suspect early Wednesday morning.

Donnie Gaise was shot after trying attacking the officer. His accused partner in crime, Derich Pryer surrendered.

The incident occurred following a late night armed robbery Tuesday at the Green Room Club on Bounds Street in north Jackson.

The suspects fled.

Later police stopped their car in west Jackson.

Police say Derich Pryer surrendered, but Donnie Graise put up a fight.

It was a close call for an officer in the line of duty.

"You never know when that next call will be the one you are out there fighting for your life. One of our officers found that out this morning and it's unfortunate anytime that we have to shoot somebody and it's unfortunate when officers have to put their lives on the line like that but that's the nature of the business," said Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance.

The unidentified Jackson police officer is recovering from his injuries.

Chief Vance said one of the suspects has confessed to the armed robbery and one has been identified in a lineup.
