MADISON, MS (WLBT) - The PGA Tour released its 2011 schedule today and the Viking Classic is making a big move.
Mississippi's premier golf tournament is moving from the fall schedule to July 14-17th, the same week as the British Open.
The move does mean the Viking Classic will be a part of the FedEx Cup points race for the first time in the tournament's history.
It is scheduled to be aired live on the Golf Channel.
Tournament director Randy Watkins says this is another step in the right direction for the Viking Classic.
"The Tour has really worked hard with us to come up with a date that suits everybody. We are very, very excited and happy to be here. It's really a badge of honor for our sponsors and our fans to move up. We are just another rung up the ladder on the tour which is what we aim for every year," said Watkins.
