CANTON, MS (WLBT) - It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Canton.  With dazzling lights and a parade down Peace Street, the city's historic square was transformed into a winter wonderland.

"It's just wonderful. It just brings back the Christmas spirit. That's what it is all about, having fun, enjoying and praising the Lord," said Pastor James Griffin who was marching in the parade.

For some it was a way to relive childhood memories.  "I grew up here in Canton so I wanted my girls to come out and experience the Canton Christmas parade," said Tonya Wicks watching the parade.  Her daughter Sara said, "It's fun watching them dance and getting candy from them."

Others were making new family traditions like Ciera Jones of Canton. "This is my baby's first Christmas parade," she said. "He's so excited. I like it here."

It takes about a month for the Canton Convention and Visitors Bureau to set up all 200,000 lights. Plus the 3 animation museums featuring 150 moving figurines.  New this year, Canton is featuring a Christmas tree with lights that dance to holiday tunes.

"Come see it. Come to Canton. This is something never before seen.  You're certainly not going to see it anywhere else in the state of Mississippi.  You'll love it," said Canton Mayor William Truly.

The lights stay bright throughout the night until the sun comes up.  The dazzling Christmas display can be seen through December 23rd.
