LONG BEACH, MS (WLBT) – An alarming investigation uncovered drugs at a Long Beach elementary school Friday.

According to police, three bags of marijuana totaling about half an ounce were found at Harper McCaughan Elementary School.

Investigators said two children brought the drugs to school and gave them to two other students.

Their ages are between nine and 12.

Other children found out and told teachers.

"I was surprised, it's something you don't ever want to see at the elementary, we never had it before and it was handled. And like I said, we've done what we had to do, we're following our policy, and we really want to congratulate our students and our staff here for taking care of it," said Long Beach Schools Superintendent Carrolyn Hamilton.

The names of the four children have not been released.

They face suspension, alternative school placement or expulsion.
