Prank call sends police to Yazoo City High School

Posted: Updated:

YAZOO CITY, Miss. (WLBT) - Yazoo police responded to the Yazoo city high school Wednesday morning, in response to a call of a student with a gun. The school was immediately put on lock down.

After searching the school officials there determined it was a prank.

"I felt real scared I thought I was gonna die," said 11th grader Silvur Allen.

School officials say they have had bomb threats in the past, but nothing like this.

"Were in the middle of 9 weeks exams many of those exams were stopped.  It causes hysteria like this that was one of the main reasons why we looked at our media policy and cell phone policy with students and how harmful those can be when dealing with hysteria," said Superintendent Shannon Sudbury.

Many students began texting parents about the situation who  responded to pick up their kids early. Students leaving the school said they were scared because they thought it was the real thing.

Cell phones are prohibited for use by students during school hours, but many used them to forward information about the possible weapon situation.

Police are still searching for the prank caller. The lockdown was lifted just before lunch and classes resumed.
