Visitor's admired former Mayor Frank Melton's home with new owner

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Visitors poured into former Mayor Frank Melton's northeast Jackson home Friday.

This while many area residents continued to wonder if the high-end property will be used as a public activity center.

The new owner told us today it will remain her private residence. WLBT news first questioned the city about required zoning for this type of transition. WLBT recently received a fax indicating the home would be used as a new multipurpose activity center and that the grand opening celebration would be held Friday. But city officials said that would be illegal and violate zoning requirements.

"You don't need any type of zoning and you are not going to have an activities center here? the city and I are square," said new homeowner Joyce Caracci.

City officials have inspected the property. They refused to allow the owner to turn a lot on the private property into a parking lot. A recreation room was named The Bottom Line in honor of Frank Melton.
