JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Magnolia state celebrated a milestone Friday.
It's the 193rd anniversary of Mississippi's Admission to the Union.
A small group gathered at the Old Capitol Museum in downtown Jackson Friday morning for the 2nd Annual Statehood Day.
Former Governor William Winter spoke to the group. He shared why the Old Capitol Chamber holds special meaning for him.
"Well it's always an honor for me to speak in this chamber here. This is where I was inaugurated as governor some 30 years ago and to come back here in this historic spot and particularly on the anniversary of the admission of Mississippi to the Union," said Former Governor Winter said.
During Governor Winter's speech, he talked about Mississippi's past and where he thinks the state is headed.
