CLEVELAND, MS (WLBT) - Ever since September, Delta State junior quarterback Micah Davis has been waking up on Saturday morning's and heading to the football field.
That doesn't change this Saturday. Davis leads the 10-3 Statesmen into the D2 semifinals against Shephard University.
There is also something special about December 11th, 2010, it's the day Davis graduates from Delta State University, but you won't find him at the commencement ceremony.
"I was supposed to walk tomorrow, but I'll be here," said Davis.
The star quarterback will pass on the walking process, so he can pass on the field.
Davis has thrown for 3,661 yards this season and 28 touchdowns.
Impressive numbers, but what might be more impressive is the 4.0 GPA for this chemistry major.
"Micah has been an outstanding ambassador for our program and a great ambassador for this university. 4.0, besides being a great football player, he's been outstanding," said DSU head coach Ron Roberts.
"I've talked to all the coaches and the athletic director. They've asked me what I want to do. I told them I want to be out here," Davis stated.
Davis is only a redshirt junior, so he has one more year of eligibility for the Statesmen, but don't expect his senior schedule to be filled with ballroom dancing and basket weaving.
"I'm actually going to start studying for the MCAT. I have to really get on that. I haven't really started studying any with it. So, that's really what I'm going to be doing," stated Davis.
Although he won't walk tomorrow, Davis hops there are possibilities in the future.
"Maybe I can get into medical school and graduate from there and be able to walk there," said Davis.
Delta State takes on Shephard at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Cleveland.
