JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Jackson homeowner opens fire on men who broke into his house overnight. It is a crime police say is connected to an earlier home invasion.

JPD Officer Colendula Green says three men kicked in the front door of a home in the three thousand block of Rainey Road around 3 a.m.

The unidentified homeowner told police they ordered the family to lay on the ground. The resident was able to grab his gun and began firing shots.

Two people were shot in the leg, while one was shot in the back and leg. A fourth man escaped.

Green says two suspects were treated and released from a local hospital and taken into police custody. A third is still hospitalized.

Jackson Police have arrested 16 year-old, John Caston, 17 year-old, Clency Lampton and 19 year-old Nicholas Shannon and charged each with house burglary and armed robbery.

Investigators believe the suspects were linked to another break-in about four miles away.

Around 1:30 a.m. Officer Green says police were called to a home invasion in the 17 hundred block of Chesswood drive. The homeowner says four men kicked in the carport door and displayed weapons, demanding money, wallets and other items.

Investigators have not released the name of that homeowner.
