LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)- LMPD is investigating a bus fight that sent a middle school student to the hospital.
A JCPS official confirms with WAVE 3 that two Highland Middle school students were involved in a fight on the bus one block from school Friday afternoon. The bus driver turned around and dropped the boys off at the school with administrators. The school principal told WAVE 3 News on Saturday, the two boys looked as if they had been in a fight but showed no outward signs of serious injury. Administrators said the boys were released to their parents Friday afternoon.
According to police, one of the students was complaining of headaches Friday evening. The 13-year-old student was taken to Norton Audubon Hospital. Police say staff at Audubon evaluated the boy as having some type of head trauma. The student was then taken by ambulance to Kosair Children's Hospital. He was taken into surgery for a brain bleed.
At last check the child was out of surgery and was listed in fair condition.
Saturday, the school's Principal said this was an unexpected isolated incident. Administrators said they are concerned for the well being of both students and their families.
Police say their investigation continues. School Administrators will launch their own investigation into the incident on Monday. Metro police say it is too early to tell if any charges will be filed.
