LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A former Bullitt County firefighter charged with stealing from the department appeared in court on Dec. 10 via video arraignment.
Police say 57-year-old James Johnson, the former Nichols Volunteer Fire Department treasurer, confessed to taking taxpayer money from 2008 until he was laid off in July of this year because of money troubles.
It was not until after the lay off that a trustee found problems with the financial records.
The department should be able to recoup most of the losses up to $100,000.
