JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A bank robber is in custody this afternoon after pulling off a mid-day heist in a busy shopping area.
It occurred at the Trustmark bank located at 1440 Canton Mart road at 1:15 p.m..
Witnesses say the robber entered the bank, then demanded money at knife point from a teller.
The man received an undisclosed amount of money and tried to flee the area. When officers received the call of the robbery in progress, they were less than a mile away.
As officers arrived, the robber was just leaving the bank. He was then arrested without incident, and taken into custody.
The robber has been identified as 57-year-old Harold Jackson. He's the first bank robber to be caught on the scene of the crime, in quite some time.
"It is strange cause it normally doesn't happen but I'm glad by the officers working operation safe shop in close proximity of the area they were able to respond within seconds," says Officer Colendula Green.
There weren't any customers in the bank, but there were four tellers working inside. No one was injured.
