JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – The mother and girlfriend of a convicted felon, as well as a jailer are behind bars for smuggling drugs into the Hinds County Detention Center.

Forty eight year old Lisa Black, the mother of repeat offender Michael Black, and his girlfriend 24 year old Tiffany Nicole Givens are charged with paying a detention officer to bring marijuana and cell phones into the jail.

Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin said they paid corrections officer Daniele Jerome Banks to give the drugs and contraband to Michael Black, a 23 year old inmate at the facility.

The two are officially charged with furnishing contraband into a correctional facility, possession of marijuana and conspiracy.

No bond has been set for Black and Givens.

"It's embarrassing, and how often does it happen? Far too often, one time is too much. So in this particular case we certainly want to send a message to those who might be tempted to go down this same path," said Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin.

In November Banks was charged with possession of marijuana in a correctional facility and furnishing contraband into a correctional facility.

The 42 year old is on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of concurrent criminal and internal investigations.

The sheriff said the investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are possible.
