JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Grammy Award Winning rapper returns to his hometown to bring Christmas joy to Jackson's children.
David Banner held his annual "Heal The Hood at Christmas" gift giveaway Saturday night at the Boys and Girls Club on Raymond Road. For the fifth year the well-known rap artist has given away gifts during the holiday season to families living in poverty.
Fifteen families were selected. Banner grew up in Mississippi's capital city and says he makes a cognizant effort to extend a helping hand to those in need.
"It's just to try to bring sunlight to families who just may not have the opportunities and may not have the finances to do the same. For me its important to be able to help and to come back to the community that I'm from and to give back, Banner said."
In addition to the gifts for families, Banner also gave presents to ten young men living out of a local homeless shelter.
