Shoplifter accused of nearly running over deputy

LEE COUNTY, FL (WLBT) - A Jackson woman was arrested in southwest Florida accused of trying to run over a deputy with her car. 

Lee County deputies were called to the mall Friday night regarding two shoplifters.  According to authorities, Latrina Newsome and Maurice Jones, both of Jackson, jumped into a silver Dodge Charger and tried to run over a deputy during their escape.

The abandoned vehicle was found a short time later.

Newsome was caught and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest.  Jones was charged with resisting arrest and loitering and prowling.
