JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The U.S. Senate has confirmed Jackson attorney Carlton Reeves to serve on federal court.

Mississippi's two senators, republicans Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, cast votes Sunday afternoon in support of Reeves.

Officials said the confirmation was unanimous.

In April President Barack Obama nominated the 45 year old for the judicial seat left vacant by Judge William Barbour.

Reeves is a Yazoo City native and a graduate of Jackson State and the University of Virginia School of Law.

He was a founding partner with the law firm Pigott, Reeves and Johnson.

He will represent the southern district of Mississippi on the federal court.

It is a lifelong position.
