Total lunar eclipse begins Monday

Posted: Updated:

(WLBT) - Monday night you will have a chance to see something that only comes around a few times each decade.

Mississippi will have a front seat view of a total lunar eclipse.

A lunar eclipse happens when the moon passes in the shadow of the Earth temporarily covering it up. It will start around Monday at midnight and last for a few hours.

According to the park rangers at the Gulf Islands national seashore, the last time Mississippi was able to see total eclipse was six years ago.
