PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Public comment is sought on Chevron Products Company's request to modify its plans for a base oil production plant.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources says public input will be accepted until Jan. 7.
The Mississippi Press reports Chevron is asking to fill additional wetlands, dredge and remove material from additional water bottoms and construct more structures on Bayou Casotte.
Refinery spokesman Steve Renfroe says the modifications would allow the company to add a new berth for ships docking at the refinery.
The planned plant would be capable of producing 25,000 barrels a day of base oil, which is used to produce premium lubricants, such as motor oil.
