Lunar Eclipse: In case you missed it

The first day of winter began with a total lunar eclipse. The eclipse was visible for much of the country early this morning, and lasted for about three and a half hours.

Today's eclipse is historically significant because it's the first time since 1638 that a total lunar eclipse has occurred on the winter solstice.

Astronomers say the next time the two will happen on the same day is December 21st, 2094.
