YAZOO CITY, Miss. (AP) - A Clinton man has been sentenced to serve two years in prison after being convicted in Yazoo County this week on charges of posing as a contractor.
The attorney general's office says 35-year-old Michael Martin was convicted of false pretense and was sentenced by Circuit Judge Jannie Lewis to five years in prison, with three years suspended.
Prosecutors say that Martin posed as a contractor and offered to do work on water damage to a home in Yazoo County. Instead, they say, Martin created a series of fictitious invoices for work he did not perform.
The case was prosecuted by the Consumer Protection Division of the attorney general's office.
