JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Metro One helicopter is a valuable crime fighting tool, but it costs money to keep it airborne.
That's why the Jackson Police Foundation raises money each year with events like "Take a Tasty Bite Out of Crime" at Highland Village.
Thursday, members of the organization presented a $10,000 dollar check to Metro One Captain Coyt Bailey to help defray the cost of fuel and maintenance of the chopper.
"This is very helpful right now. It's difficult raising money in this economy and the Jackson Police Foundation has done a great job to raise money to keep doing the work that we do to make this a safer community."
Bailey says Metro One is responsible for almost 400 captures and 300 pursuits in the Jackson metropolitan area, giving officers on the ground back-up and support.
