Convicted murderer tries to stop his upcoming execution

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- A man on death row is trying to avoid his execution.

Thirty-nine-year-old Frederick Bell was convicted of murdering Bert Bell, no relation, on May 6, 1991 in a Grenada County armed robbery.

Attorney General Jim Hood petitioned the Mississippi Supreme Court to set Bell's execution date for December 29th.

Bell's attorneys filed a response to Hood's motion on December 10th.

The supreme court has not ruled yet and may not rule any time soon since they are on break for Christmas and New Year's.

Bell's accomplice, Anthony Joe Doss, was also convicted of the murder and sentenced to death as well.
