JATRAN budget cuts stuck in committee

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson city council members failed to vote a controversial JATRAN budget cut proposal out of committee Tuesday.

In recent weeks JATRAN voluntarily agreed to combine their routes to avoid cutting service to customers.

The city's latest proposal includes cutting nine driver positions, and reducing eight full-time employees to part-time. The cuts were announced by Mayor Harvey Johnson last month, to offset $1.5 Million in back pay and benefits the city was ordered to pay JATRAN union members.
