MHP beefing up presence for the holiday weekend

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - State troopers will be out in full force this New Year's Eve weekend to discourage drunk drivers from hitting the road.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will set up roadblocks all over the state. They will be using equipment in their three mobile DUI vans to test suspected drunk drivers.

Motorists can expect to see an increased number of troopers on the roads beginning Friday night through Sunday.

Sgt. James Walker said, "If you're going to drink, get a designated driver because we're going to be out and we're going to inconvenience you if you're drinking and driving and we'll give you a ride, but it's not going to be where you want to go."

If you do need a ride home this New Year's Eve, you can call the SafeKids organization at 601-360-0531.
