JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Bonnie Wilson, spokeswoman at the Jackson-Evers International Airport says the airport was temporarily evacuated to the basement as the storm came through on Friday afternoon.
The airport temporarily lost commercial power and had to use their back up generators. The building was damaged along with the main terminal. Officials say there was also minor damage at some hangars and outlying areas. They are also assessing the airfields.
Spokeswoman Wilson said the evacuations were conducted as a precaution.
Wilson says normal operations have resumed, but urges travelers to visit the airport website before leaving home to check their flight status. The link is http://www.jmaa.com
Once the storm passed everyone was allowed to return to the tower and terminals.
