Madison County Sheriff Toby Trowbridge has decided he will not run for re-election in 2012. After telling Supervisors the news Tuesday, the Sheriff's phone has been ringing off the hook.

The three- term law enforcement officer told WLBT News today it was a tough and emotional decision. The 58 year old said he wants more time with his family. Trowbridge said Wednesday, "I'm ready to retire as sheriff. I want to go out on a good note. Like I said we've had a good ride. It's been a good time. Had some low times in it, but it's time to go home while it's still, I've got good memories of law enforcement"

He talked about the value of old fashioned police work and how important that is in combating Madison county crime. He said one of the most important jobs is that of a deputy sheriff, riding the roads and talking with residents.
