JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi corrections officials revealed that Jamie and Gladys Scott will be released from prison on Friday. The Scott sisters were serving double life sentences until Governor Haley Barbour announced last week that he was suspending their sentences.
Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps confirmed that the two will be formally told of their Friday release from state prison in Rankin County on Thursday.
Epps said that Jamie Scott would undergo a dialysis treatment on Thursday for complications with her kidneys. Jamie Scott's kidney condition was a factor in Barbour's decision to release the women from prison early. Gladys Scott has promised to donate a kidney to her sister.
The Scotts were given life sentences for their involvement in a 1993 armed robbery in Scott County that netted anywhere from $11 to $200, based on court records.
