JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Two Warren County law enforcement officers received national awards Thursday.  Retired Sgt. Doug Arp and Sheriff Martin Pace were recognized at the Mississippi Attorney General's Office.  The National Association of Town Watch awarded both men with All-Star awards for their participation in National Night Out.

Sgt. Arp has been involved in the program since 1992.  He's known for spending seven days in a hole in the ground, a pool, a dumpster and other interesting places to bring attention to his anti-crime platform.

"A lot of people you know the only time you meet a cop is when you get stopped for speeding or your house getting broken into which is not a good social setting.  We give them time to come out and meet me and other investigators and the sheriff and see we're just normal people like you are," said Sgt. Arp.

What is Sergeant Arp's next idea?  He plans to go stay in a hot air balloon for National Night Out 2011.
