Child rapist arrested

CANTON, MS (WLBT) - Canton police have made an arrest in the rape of a 5-year-old girl.

Late Friday afternoon, Chief Vickie McNeill confirmed the arrest of 26-year-old Challis Lewis.

Police say Lewis is a convicted felon with a long criminal past. He was picked up earlier this week and held as a person of interest in the case.

Investigators used DNA evidence to link him to the crime.

Lewis is charged with burglary, kidnapping and rape.

His bond is set at $1,725,000.00.
