JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The icy winter weather was causing problems at the Jackson-Evers International Airport Sunday.  More than half of the scheduled arriving and departing flights through the airport were canceled.

Airport officials said Delta had announced cancellations for all flights through the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta  International Airport for Monday.  They urged folks to stay home and check flights online or by phone instead of driving to the airport.  Meanwhile, travelers hoping to catch a flight or people waiting to pick up loved ones call the delays and cancellations extremely frustrating.

"I'm miserable. I mean it is cold out there, I have a daughter in Memphis, Tennessee.  I drove from Jackson over here," said Charlie Baucum who waited more than 3 hours for his daughter's flight to arrive.

"Well we had to make a couple phone calls to American Airlines and they fixed the problems. So far, so good," said Roger Boggan who was hoping to fly out to make a cruise around New Zealand.

"If we do get sleet and freezing rain it will impact the planes ability to land on the runways here and at Hawkins Field. We are not equipped to deal with ice. We can remove snow, but when it is just a thick sheet of ice we have to wait for it to melt," said Jackson-Evers International Airport Operations Manager Bonnie Wilson.
