State Auditor Pickering announces reelection bid

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Republican Stacey Pickering says he wants to continue to work as the State Auditor.

Pickering announced his bid for re-election Monday afternoon at Republican Party Headquarters in Downtown Jackson.

Pickering talked with a small crowd about some things he wants to accomplish during a potential next term.

Pickering also pointed to his record of dealing with embezzlement since being elected in 2007.

"We've recovered over $4 million that have been embezzled or misspent. We have another 60-plus individuals that we are waiting to stand trial and over 70 individuals who have either pled guilty or been found guilty by a jury of their peers," Pickering said.

Party primaries elections are Aug. 2 and the general election is Nov. 8.
