Jackson, MS (WLBT) - The Hinds County Sheriff's Department makes an arrest in an early morning home invasion.

Deputies have charged 36 year old Cedric Romone Williams with burglary of an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault.  It happened at a house in the 700 block of Forest Woods Drive in Byram.  Sheriff's Department Spokesman Jeffery Scott says, a man kicked in the door and attempted to steal the homeowner's purse.  She responded by beating him with a broom stick.

Scott says her dog also bit the attacker.  The man then ran off, and Williams arrested a short time later.  Scott says Williams has a criminal history that includes house burglary.  Right now he's being held at the Hinds County Detention Center.  Additional charges could come because Williams is on probation with the department of corrections.
