JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Mississippi state senator has publicly kicked off his campaign for a statewide office. Senator Lee Yancey announced his candidacy for State Treasurer.
Yancey was elected to the senate in 2007. He says he'd like to seek some new responsibility as state treasurer and is more than qualified for the job.
If elected, Yancey will focus on conservative spending for the state of Mississippi.
"We just need to be responsible with our money just like my wife and I" said Yancey. "When we sit across the kitchen table, we talk about what we can afford and what we can't afford. Mississippi doesn't need to do things we can't afford."
In addition to spending money wisely, Yancey says one of his top priorities is creating more jobs in Mississippi.
